Re-enrolment will then open further on Monday 18 February and close on Thursday 20 March 2008, but you will be charged a late fee of $150
All current students go on-line to enrol through Student Connect (undergraduate and postgraduate).
All new students will be advised of the enrolment period in your offer letter. Offer letters will be delivered by courier in mid January. Enrolment will be towards the end of January 2008. You will be advised in your offer pack of the enrolment day for your course.
If your enrolment status through Student Connect shows as Lapsed or Discontinued and you are still within the time limit of your degree, you will need to complete the Application for Readmission Form. Following the decision of the Faculty of Law, you will be advised by Student Administration of the outcome how to enrol for 2008.
What units do I enrol in?
For undergraduate students (including those in the graduate entry Bachelor of Laws), the suggested pathways for completing your course in the minimum amount of time, can be found here: Course Pathways. These pathways will most often include semesters that are overloaded or more than the standard full-time enrolment of 4 units per semester. If you are part-time, just enrol in the next one or two units listed on the Course Pathways.
The Pathways list the Law Core Units and the number of Option units to take in each semester. You can take the Core units in any order as long as any co- and pre- requsisites are taken into account.
As postgraduate students do not have Core units, you may enrol in whichever option units you wish provided that they are part of your course. Course rules for postgraduate courses can be accessed via the Handbooks.
The Option units that the Faculty of Law will be offering in 2008, can be found here. These will be available from 26 November 2007. Clicking on the unit code and name will direct you to the Handbook where you can read a brief description of the unit and any pre- or co- requisites, as well as timetable information to help you plan the units you want to take. The Blackstone Society also publish an Alternative Faculty Handbook for your benefit.
Group B units will be shaded.
What if my enrolment for 2008 shows 'invalid' against some units?
If you have enrolled in either of the two quota restricted units (Negotiation and Mediation or Forensic Advocacy), INVALID will remain on your enrolment until the class list is determined by Faculty Administration. There are still places available in Forensic Advocacy, but all of the classes are full for Negotiation and Mediation. Please do not enrol in Negotiation and Mediation (if you have not already done so). Instead, please contact Deborah Rhys-Jones and ask to be placed on the waiting list. Students can still add Forensic Advocacy to their enrolment, through Student Connect.
Other than the quota units, 'invalid' will appear if your enrolment breeches a rule attached to that unit, or applications for Advanced Standing have not yet been processed. For more information, please call 6488 2960 or 6488 2961. Do not panic! It may be that there is a simple explanation as to why the unit is invalid, such as unconfirmed exchange or cross-institutional results.
What if I want to enrol in summer school units?
The Faculty of Law is running the Group B unit, LAWS3324 Medicine and the Law, over the summer break. It is not run intensively; it is run through January and February 2008.
If you want to enrol in this unit (and remember, you need to complete either one or two units from Group B throughout the course of your degree), just add the unit during the re-enrolment period. LAWS3324 Medicine and the Law is offered in semester 2 as well, so make sure if you want the take the unit in summer school, that the semester you choose is SUMMER.
What if I am going on Exchange for all of 2008 or one semester?
You must ensure you are enrolled at UWA and your host institution. If you are going on Exchange for the whole year, you must enrol in both semesters, using the appropriate code. If you are studying overseas for only one semester, enrol in the appropriate semester using the below Exchange codes and enrol in UWA units in the other semester.
You will not be able to add the exchange unit codes to your enrolment online via StudentConnect. If you will be studying at UWA for part of 2008, you can re-enrol online and add in the units you will be studying at UWA. You will then need to obtain a change of enrolment form from Student Administration to add the exchange code/s. If you are only doing exchange units in 2008, you will need to obtain a hard copy enrolment form from Student Administration. Student Administration is located at the eastern end of Hacket Hall. If you can't make it to Student Administration in person, they can arrange your enrolment via fax or e-mail. Please visit http://www.studentadmin.uwa.edu.au for more information.
The code you use correlates to the number of UWA equivalent points you will be studying on Exchange.
- EXCH0929 equates to 12 UWA points
- EXCH0919 equates to 18 UWA points
- EXCH0909 equates to 24 UWA points
- EXCH0959 equates to 30 UWA points
What if I am taking units cross-institutionally?
You need to complete our Cross Institutional Enrolment form and hand it in to the Law School. If approved, you need to ensure you are enrolled at UWA and the host university. The codes to use are on the back of the form. Most often, Law students will use the code ENRL3003.
You will not be able to add the cross-institutional unit code to your enrolment online via StudentConnect. If you will be studying at UWA for part of 2008, you can re-enrol online and add in the units you will be studying at UWA. You will then need to obtain a change of enrolment form from Student Administration to add the cross-institutional code. If you are only doing cross-institutional units in 2008, you will need to obtain a hard copy enrolment form from Student Administration. Student Administration is located at the eastern end of Hacket Hall. If you can't make it to Student Administration in person, they can arrange your enrolment via fax or e-mail. Please visit http://www.studentadmin.uwa.edu.au for more information.
What if I want to take a semester or a year off from study?
If you only want to study for one semester in 2008, simply enrol in that semester's units only. If you want to take the whole year off study, complete an Application for Approved Leave Form.
To take the whole of 2008 off from study, please fill in the form with the dates 3 March 2008 to 30 November 2008. In late November of 2008, during the re-enrolement period, you must remember to re-enrol if you want to continue with your study in 2009.
Submit the form directly to the Law School for processing. You will not need to make an appointment to see the Faculty Administrative Officers or the Associate Dean to submit the form. The decision will be made based on the information you list on the form and providing you are within your course time limit.
