Law Courses at the University of Western Australia
Undergraduate The undergraduate Law program at the University of Western Australia (UWA) contains three options for studying a course leading to the award of a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) - a 5 year combined course, a three year graduate entry LLB, and a four year undergraduate entry LLB course. It should be noted that completion of these courses in the times stated will require overloads.
As part of their Law course, many undergraduate students are now including a period of student exchange to another country where units may be completed by special arrangements between the Law school at UWA and the exchange university.
Students may elect to study either part-time or full-time, or a combination of both. Evening and weekend classes are not available and the course is not available via distance learning.
Postgraduate The Law Faculty has a number of programs for graduates. These include Graduate Diplomas, Masters by Coursework (three of each currently being offered with more in the pipeline) and the Doctor of Juridical Science. The Doctor of Juridical Science is a professional doctorate offering both coursework and research and may take up to 9 years to complete. The pure Research Masters courses and Doctor of Philosophy in Law require the Law graduate to undertake original research into a specific field of Law.
All the Masters programs in Law are open to International students under the University's general rules.
It is also possible, for general interest, to take one or two units in Law through UWA Extension's ACCESS Program.
